C'mon in, and cozy up in your favorite reading chair, because we have
some great suggestions for your reading pleasure. Prior to traveling
and speaking, I was a book reviewer at women's retreats--which I loved
doing. I read hundreds of books which added wise counsel, humor, and
encouragement to my life. Therefore, I love passing on to you both
old and new book recommendations. C. S. Lewis said, "We read to
know we are not alone." Somehow, hearing from others cheers me
on, and yes, reminds me I am not alone.
I will review a wide range (children's, novels, devotionals, etc.)
of books, some which would be appropriate even for the reluctant reader.
I realize not everyone loves to read. In fact, I did not learn to be
a reader until my life hit the wall. Then, I couldn't find enough to
read as I struggled through some difficult years of my life. I pray
these selections will be a source of joy for your life. Be sure to
check back every month as I review new books!

If you don't enjoy drama and suspense then skip this one. But if you love a well-told story that takes you along people's journeys toward wholeness this read will please you. I was riveted after the first few pages much less the first few chapters. This writer knows how to emotionally engage his readers. And I love that he includes the element of the unexpected, which kept me running back for more.
This is a book about redemption. This is a book about the impact of one poor woman's rich legacy. This is a book about the hard work of recovery. This my friends is a book!
I would say this is a character-driven book as their strengths and weaknesses cause you to pursue each page in search of their well-being. Martin has captured the tortuous struggle life can hold while not forsaking God's redemptive hand in the fray.
Wrapped in Rain is the story of two half-brothers raised by a cruel and abusive father and a God-fearing nanny named Mrs. Rain. Just those two characters alone will give you a clear picture of evil and goodness at war for the human soul.
This book will remind you of the extreme frailty and the great strength within each of us. Your heart will ache, you will cheer, you will ponder, and you will applaud this passionate story.
For me the test of a good read is when (a.) I don't want the story to end and (b.) I miss my reading-visits with the characters. If I were forced to choose my favorite character I would say it was Mrs. Rain because of her inspiring legacy.
