Word for February…"Posology"

Now there's a word you don't hear everyday…or perhaps never, unless you're a pharmacist or a doctor. But I loved its application to our lives even more than the definition.

Posology is the branch of pharmacology dealing with the determination of dosage. Poso comes from the Greek for "how much."

Posology keeps guidelines clear on how much medication and in what strengths can be released with the least amount of risk and the greatest benefit to the giver and taker. Doctors and Pharmacists don't want to be sued and we as consumers don't want to overdose.

"How much?" Is an age-old question. Where do we draw lines for ourselves and with others? How often can we forgive before it's an overdose or is it even possible to over-forgive? How much can we afford to give of our time to others before it's a detriment and drain on our families and on our health? What is a reasonable and safe prescription for handing over money to our kids? How much time do we spend entertaining ourselves? Working? Feeling sorry for us? Nurturing others?

Every person should be a student of posology in the sense that we might dole out our advice, energy, money, and time in healthy and safe portions. We are to be wise in dispensing ourselves. Wisdom always has guidelines.

Do we?

Poso;how much…great food for thought.
